I've decided to work on an Archer guide. I'll post in in the forums, and I'm thinking I might put it up on Gamefaqs.com. They don't have an archer FAQ on there. I'm pretty sure this guide will be longer than 10k characters, so I'll be reserving threads on this first page for expansion. It will make it easier to divide the sections. I'm pretty sure I'll need some input from you guys as well, so feel free to give me input at any time. I may also look in other threads for information.
Ok the guide is going slow, but steady. I've almost finished and I'm happy. If you want to give me comments and more info, I wouldn't mind at all. And if you want to correct any typos you find, now would be the time to do it.

+----------------+ |[3] Introduction| +----------------+
[3.1] Intro to Rakion
Rakion is an online fantasy fighting game created by Softnyx. It is free to download and free to play online. Players can
choose between five different character classes, including archer, blacksmith, mage, ninja, and swordsman. Players can fight
each other or complete different single player stages to earn experience points and gold. With gold players can buy different
armor, weapons, accessories, and creatures to summon. Experience points will level up the players and their creatures.
Players can also join different clans to earn extra experience points. In addition to the items that can be bought with gold,
there are also numerous items to buy with game cash, which can be purchased from Softnyx. There is also a premium account
service for purchase called Power User.
[3.2] Intro to Archer Class
The archer is a powerful character. Its range attack, while not as powerful as other characters', is quite fast and accurate
and effective at short as well as long distances. Many archers, in fact, will not even touch their short sword. An archer's
melee attacks are, not surprisingly, weak compared with the other characters, but overall an archer can hold his or her own
against the other characters.
[3.3] Intro to the Guide
I'm just going to say this right now: this guide will be biased. I have been playing Rakion since it was in beta version and
I have tried playing all other characters and I am convinced that the archer is the most powerful character. You may try to
argue with that opinion, but you will fail to convince me otherwise. I even belong to an archer only clan, TheRangers.
I decided to write this guide because Rakion has a very steep learning curve, and I have not found a good comprehensive guide
for the archer class. This guide is meant to be a guide for archer's only, but I'm sure that by reading this guide one could
find many ways to fight archers better.
This guide will not cover stages. Only how to kill others with extreme prejudice in multi-player combat games.

+----------------+ |[5] Archer Guide| +----------------+
[5.1] General Tactics --------------------- In this section I will list helpful tips, point by point. These tips are what makes an archer a good archer, and if practiced
and mastered, will make great archer.
[5.1.a] Don't rush it.
An archer is, after all, a ranged character for the most part. Therefore, it would be in the best interest for an archer to
stay far away from the enemy. If an enemy is charging towards you, there is no need for you to charge as well. Stay back and
shoot arrows at him. If you have a team with melee characters (Smith, Swordsman, Ninja) let them go ahead of you. While they
attack it is quite easy to shoot the enemy from afar. Whatever you do, don't let more than one enemy near you if possible. It
is very hard for an archer to hold his or her own against two enemies in close quarter combat. Using these tactics, it is
very easy to stay alive. I often find myself to be the last one alive in hopless golem matches (not because I'm not helping
out the team, but because my team sucks in general). In my opinion, staying alive is the most important thing in Rakion. The
longer you stay alive, the more damage you can potentially do, and the better chance you have of winning.
[5.1.b] Lead the target.
While you are keeping your distance and firing arrows at enemies that are running around, there is a trick to making your
arrows hit. This is called leading the target. The way this works takes some practice, but the main thing to keep in mind is
to not aim at an enemy, but aim at the place the enemy will be when your arrow will reach there. A little confused? Let me
try to make a little picture:
Target=O Direction of Movement=> Aimer=X
If you have an enemy in front of you and he is moving right you will want to aim in front of him, meaning to his right:
Target Aim Here O >>> X ___________________________________________________________________________________________
This should give you a general idea of what I'm talking about. Notice how I'm not aiming for the target, but where the target
will be.
Now sometimes when an enemy approaches you, they will not run in a straight line. If they do that is great, just keep firing
at them. More often than not, however, they will run in a zig-zag pattern to dodge arrows. When they do this to me I usuall
aim somewhere in the middle of their zig-zag pattern and fire arrows. I usually get a few hits. Keep in mind that most
players will have a pattern in how they go about dodging arrows, and if you can figure that out you will get more hits.
[5.1.c] Stunning Arrows.
Like all the characters in the game, the archer's range weapon has a stunning effect. Meaning, when an arrow hits an enemy
character, they will stop for a short time and not be able to move or swing a weapon. Unlike other characters, though, the
archer's range attack is very quick. So quick, in fact, that they can completely stop a character from hitting you. Let me
detail how to do this:
Ideal conditions: Usually this only works against somewhat inexperienced players, because most advanced players will have
found out either how to beat this technique, or how to avoid it. This technique usually works best when an enemy is adjacent
to you. I think it is also easier to do on fat characters (blacksmith) or characters with a wide weapon swing (blacksmith,
warrior).
Here is how to do it: First of all you shoot your enemy. Second, while he/she is stunned, you draw back your bow again,
without moving. Third shoot again. You need to be sure that you can get arrows off as quick as possible, so it might not be a
bad idea to practice firing arrows rapidly before you try this.
So it seems pretty simple right? Did you forget that your enemy can move and attack, too? Yes actually the stunning effect is
too short to completely imobilize an enemy by yourself. More often than not your enemy will try to move around you in order
to score a hit. This can be countered by quickly moving your aimer with your mouse and firing an arrow at the same fast-paced
rate. Sometimes your enemy will try to hit you, but you can usually catch them in mid swing if you fire arrows rapidly
enough.
Usually the only thing that can stop the Stunning Arrow technique is a short mage swinging his staff, a ninja stabbing you,
or a very well-timed grip. One more thing: even though every character's range attack has some sort of stun attribute to it,
a lot of people in the game will call this technique an archer glitch or bug (usually people who don't know better and just
stand there taking arrows to the face). I would say this technique is definately not a bug or glitch, and is relatively
similar to the one hit/grip technique that ninja's often use (or abuse). The only difference is that people don't call that a
bug/glitch.
[5.1.d] Archer can fire arrows without drawing bow back.
Ok, so one dead givaway that an archer is going to shoot an arrow and you better get the hell out of the way or you are
staring cross-eyed at some feathers sticking out of your head is that you see and hear the archer draw back the bow. What if
I said that you can actually fire an arrow without drawing your bow? You would say, OMG YEAH TELL ME HOW, right?
Well the truth is you can't fire an arrow without drawing your bow, but you can fire an arrow without your enemy seeing you
drawing back your bow. This is actually a bug or a glitch and people may say that you use/abuse it, but in truth there is no
way to avoid this bug. It just happens. It most often happens if you fire an arrow right after blocking an attack. Say you
block the first swing of a smith or swordsman, move back and then draw and fire an arrow. You see your bow draw back and the
arrow hit its mark, but the enemy can't see you draw back at all. Its pretty neat because most people don't expect an arrow
to materialize and fly right at them.
[5.1.e] Archer Juggling.
With this technique you can actually totally imobilize and destroy an enemy. For this you will need two archers (or a skilled
player of a different character). Now this technique is most effective if an enemy has just completely missed an attack, such
as a grip or special. Now the first archer fires an arrow and hits. While the enemy is stunned the second archer fires an
arrow and hits. Now while the enemy is stunned the first archer again shoots and hits. Both of you just keep firing one after
the other and the enemy has absolutely no chance to do anything and just dies. Great fun.
I think the best way to do this is have both pretty close to each other. That way you can keep up the same beat by listening
to your bow pumps. Also this only works if you both fire at different times. Of course one of you has to fire first, and I
usually leave this job up to whoever is closest to the enemy. I assume if they are closer, they might not see me as well, and
probably wouldn't anticipate a juggling technique going down. So if there was an archer in front of me, I would wait for them
to fire first and then I would fire. It usually works out good.
Last thing: Any other tips you want included?
You can email me at xtowers@hotmail.com with any other tips you think should be added. Be sure to put "Rakion" or "rakion" (no quotes) in the subject line. My junk mail filters are set high.

[5.2] PvP Tactics ----------------- In this section I will detail the best ways to go about killing other characters. I shall put these PvP guides in order of
increasing difficulty. In my opinion the easiest to fight against is blacksmith, then mage, followed by archer. Swordsman is
next and ninja I think is the hardest. The actual difficulty could be debated, but it depends on how skilled the person is,
among other factors, so it would be pointless to debate. Anyways, here we go:
A quick note first. I'll divide each character PvP section into a few parts, as follows:
1. Long-range: Tactics for when a character is at a distance and on an approach to your archer.
2. Short-range: Tactics for when your archer is within striking distance of an enemy character.
[5.2.a] Blacksmith
1. Long-range:
Blacksmiths are quite easily the easiest to defeat at a long range for one reason: they are huge. An arrow in their general
direction usually hits. When they approach you they will often try to zig zag or circle around to your side to avoid arrows.
Just be ready to quickly move to avoid a jump attack, or lunge attack. A smith's jump attack is quite powerful and can
sometimes strip all an archer's armor off in one hit. Very scary. If you do manage to dodge a jump attack, though, it leaves
them wide open to more attacks.
Perhaps the most annoying thing a smith can do at a distance is attack an archer with axes. These axes also do considerable
damage and are sometimes hard to avoid if you aren't ready for them. The best thing to do would be to keep moving and try to
put more distance between you and the whirling axes of death. The effectiveness of a smith's axes diminish greatly the
further away they are from their target. The reason being is the axes travel in a huge arch and it can be hard to land a hit
from far away. If you are close to a smith with axes out, they can easily hit you. The delay time for throwing axes seems to
be close to or shorter than that of archer's arrows, so a smith can quite throw an axe before an archer can shoot an arrow,
even after being stunned by an arrow already.
2. Short-range:
Smiths, again, are easy to defeat at close range because they are huge. If you just keep pumping arrows out that hit their
mark every time, there is not much a smith can do. One of my favorite things to do, though, is this: When a smith is at close
range, they will often try to hit you with their basic attack. This attack, as you may know, is two hits long. If you manage
to block the first swing and immediately back up, the smith will completely miss his second swing and leave himself wide open
for an attack.
[5.2.b] Mage
1. Long-range:
Mages can be tricky at long range because they are so tiny. They can be hard to hit so you may want to get a bit closer than
you normally would. Or you can always wait for them to try a special or grip and then fire arrows with accuracy.
When a mage approaches they can be exremely hard to hit. They often zig-zag, and with their tinyness it makes them pretty
hard to stop. The best bet would be to aim low and to the middle of their zig-zag.
Another annoying thing mages do is try to hit you with fireballs, but I think mages find it even more annoying when their
aiming is interupted by an arrow. Most mages become fed up with it and give up after a while, and their fireballs are usually
pretty easy to dodge.
2. Short-range:
Another difficult situation. A mage is very close to you and trying to whack you quick with his staff. You literally have to
point your bow straight down as far as it can go to hit them. However, if you can keep on hitting them, they are no problem.
If you are up against a good mage, they might try to grip you, and that can really hurt so be careful.
So far it may seem like Mages can be hard to beat and deserve a higher spot in the list. The thing is that if a mage does
manage to hit you (exept with range), the damage is usually minimal. On top of that, their health and armor can be pretty
weak and that makes them easier to kill.
[5.2.c] Archer
Quick note: I used to have a lot of trouble with archers, but since I've some-what mastered the following skills they have
been easier for me to beat.
1. Long-range:
If you do not know how to fight an archer at long range, they can be the most deadly character you will come up against.
Since I myself have extensive knowledge of archers I think I can make a pretty detailed description of how to fight a range
battle with an archer.
a.) Keep moving. You need to keep moving to avoid getting shot. Some archers are good at predicting how you will move and can hit you even
though you are moving, but it is rare.
b.) Wait for them to fire first. If you can get them to fire first, it leaves them wide open for attack. If you keep moving around, the chances that they will
miss is very great.
c.) Predict their movements. If you do manage to hit them, there are pretty much two ways they can go: Left or right. If you can figure out which way they
will go when they recover, you can land another shot.
d.) Block. If you know you are going to get shot, by all means try to block their shot.
e.) Fake them out. If an archer is doing the same thing as you, waiting for the other to attack first, try to fake them out. Simply by clicking
mouse1 real quick, you may actually get them to fire at you. Just the sound of a bow being pulled prompts other archers to
attack. Then you can shoot them, assuming they miss.
f.) Fire fast. If you can fire faster arrows than your enemy archer, you definately have an advantage. Practice firing arrows at a fast rate
and you should get the hang of it in no time.
If nothing seems to be working and you get completely pulverized every time you meet a certain archer, do not worry. Stay
focused. Look at what they are doing to kill you. And either try to do that yourself, or try to find a way around it. You may
need to die a couple times in order to figure them out, but it will be worth it. You will learn a new way to play archer and
you can take that to other games.
2. Short-range
Ok, never forget this. Melee archers are noob archers (well, most of them are. I have met a few archers with very good melee
builds that can really hold their own). Most of them will simply come at you with their sword and die at your feet. There are
two main reasons for this. Either they can't beat you at range and are low on health so they try to melee you, or they have
no idea what they are doing. Enough said.
[5.2.d] Swordsman
1. Long-range
Most swordsman will put at least some of their level points into move speed, making it a little tricky to hit them and they
will often close the gap between you and them pretty fast. Keep shooting at them and hopefully you will hit them. There
aren't many swordsman who use their ranged attack, so that is usually not an issue.
2. Short-range
If you can help it, avoid getting into close quarters combat with swordsman. If you get cornered by one, it can mean the end
for an archer. Even if you get knocked down and try to retaliate, most swordsman are so skilled that they can catch you every
time you try to counter.
If you are being chased, try to anticipate when the swordsman will swing and jump at that exact moment. If you have been
knocked down, you can try to retaliate. If you do I would try to stand up behind the swordsman if possible. Do this and you
can avoid getting jump attacked.
[5.2.e] Ninja
1. Long-range
Ninja are hard to kill at long range because they are fast and they have the ability to block and slide around. It is quite
difficult to land an arrow when they are sliding around. I usually just ignore ninjas that are doing this and focus on
different targets. It is better to be dealing damage to an enemy consistently, than hoping to land an arrow on a ninja.
2. Short-range
Ninja can also be annoying when at close range. They like to grip archers. Very much. There is a way to deal with this,
however. And I shall detail it here. Lucky you.
If you have a ninja chasing you, you know they are looking to grip you. It is in a ninja's blood. The first step is to run
away from the ninja, but you need to have your aim cursor on the ninja. The second step is to fake a drawback of your bow.
This will prompt the ninja to try to hit you. The first step for a ninja to grip a moving target is to hit them with their
ninja sword. So when you fake them out they will try to hit you, then all you have to do is draw your bow for real and hit
them. Usually a ninja can only miss a few times before biting the dust.
Last thing: Any Questions?
You can email me at xtowers@hotmail.com with any other questions regarding how to beat a particular class. Be sure to put "rakion" or "Rakion" (no quotes) in the subject line. My junk mail settings are pretty high.

[5.3] Guide By Map ------------------
In this section I want to go through each of the maps and detail the best ways for an archer to play on the map. Unless I
mention it, I won't detail how to approach each map depending on the game type. For the most part they will be referencing
golem games, because that is what I play most nowadays.
[5.3.a] Gravity
I don't think this is the best map for archers. I think it is perhaps the second worst (next to covolt peak) golem map for
archers. On this map an archer has 3 choices pretty much. One is to stay on the ground level and fight anybody that chooses
to stay on the ground level as well, or perhaps shoot those pesky mages on top. The second choice is to go up to the top
level and try to shoot the mages, but this will almost certainly result in you falling off to avoid a mage's fireballs. The
third choice is to go down into the basement and fight the golem or people trying to get the golem. This is also undesirable
because of the close quarters combat. There isn't a lot of space to move around.
I almost always go with the first choice. It is the safest to me. I will usually try to harass the enemy mages on the top
level and perhaps entice a smith or swordsman to stay up top to fight me. If I have chaos, though, I will go down to the
bottom and rack up a few kills, perhaps steal the golden sword, and maybe even defeat the enemy golem.
There is also a safe spot to fire arrows and avoid being hit. It is to the very right and left entrances to your base/start
location. There is a small pillar or stone or whatever. You can get behind that and actually fire just over the top of it. In
this position you can hit enemies far away on the ground level or some people on the top level. There isn't a wide area to
fire at, but you are almost guaranteed not to be hit by any other non-explosive range attacks.
[5.3.b] Twin Castle
My favorite map. Perhaps one of the best maps for archers. There are so many places an archer can shoot and not be hit, it is
very fun. Lots of escape routes, too.
At the start of a golem game, there are three places to go: the stairs, the tunnel, or the towers. I will almost always go
through the tunnel, unless I'm being harrassed constantly in the tunnels. In that case I will take the stairs. Also if it is
imperative to get the golem as fast as possible, I will go to the towers. Otherwise to the tunnels I go. I find it very
usefeul for avoiding mage attacks. In addition I also get a clear shot at the swordsman, smiths, and ninjas attacking the
golden golem. If the enemy gets the golem first, I can just take the tunnels back to the base. In fact, my presence in the
tunnels sometimes gets the enemy sword carrier to take the stairs instead of the tunnels.
There are various places to hide behind in this map. There are four platforms in the central area that you can get behind and
still have clear shots at the towers. You can also use the stairs to hide behind. When you and your team are fighting you way
oup the stairs (perhaps with the golden sword, trying to get to the enemy golem), you can just get up next to the edge of a
stair and fire at the enemy. They can barely hit you and you will have good shots at them. Just be sure to not let any
enemies get behind you.
If you yourself have the sword there is usually no need to go into the enemy base to kill the golem. If the golem hasn't
moved at all, you can easily shoot the golem from outside the base while you are in the tunnels or on the stairs. Just summon
up any creatures you have and unleash a continuous barrage of arrows. The golem will go down in no time.
[5.3.c] Covolt Peak
The worst map for archers, in my opinion. There are not a lot of places to hide in this map, not any good places anyways. And
most likely you will need to go up to the very top level at some point, which is not good for archers. It is easy for an
enemy to sneak behind an archer up there, or knock them down off the top. I wouldn't recommend this map.
If you do happen to play it, I would focus on hitting the players who are going for the golem, and try not to get hit
yourself. It often happens that nobody will stay down on the ground level to fight you, so will usually have to go to the top
to do any damage.
[5.3.d] Draco Valley
Since this level is so huge, it is a little hard for archers. Especially hard for slow archers. What happens is you start off
and go into the white teleporter in front. From this teleporter you end up in a room with every one else, including the enemy
team. From this room you take one of two slides into a huge gold golem room. One of the two teams will get the gold sword and
then you will have a long trek to either protecting the sword carrier or defending your golem. It can be exhausting running
around a lot. Sometimes if I'm sure my team won't get the sword I'll just hang back and protect my own golem.
I think on this map, the one thing I like to do best is to hang back in the room you initially teleport to and fight a few
enemies there. I do this because I figure it will help out my team in the long run. It does me no good to be just running
around like a chicken with his head cut off. I might as well do some damage right? Right.
[5.3.e] Mammoth
Mammoth is a decent level for archers. It is quite an open space, with many things to duck behind. The only problems could be
when you get caught in a slippery space.
My favorite places to hide by are by the obstructions at each of the start locations, in between the mammoth's tusks, the
massive pillar by the mammoth, and in the "cave" area.
[5.3.f] Cage
Another decent level for archers. There are lots of places to run to. Problems on this map include getting snuck up on from
your backside, since there are mainly passages. If an enemy is having trouble approaching you from one direction, they will
be able to approach you from the opposite direction.
You can possibly shoot from behind the boxes you find in one of the main rooms, and from behind the stairs leading out of the
main room. My personal favorite thing to do, however, is to go into the hallway with my teammates. I have them go in front of
me, and then I find a nice position that will let me shoot down a good length of the hallway. There are a lot of places the
enemy can hide, but if you keep on shooting, your teammates might be able to flush them out and you can score a lot of hits.

[5.3.g] Tomb of the King
Tomb of the King is a decent level for archers. One of my favorite things to do is go straight into the room right before the
golem room and shoot any enemies that come out the other door. I will rarely go into the golem room, because it is very easy
for an archer to get hit from behind in there. From the anterior room you can prevent people from getting into the golem room
and basically have fun while your teammates are in the golem room.
You can also get into the narrow hallways and block way with a bunch of creatures and a steady barrage of arrows. If you do
happen to get the golden sword, I would recommend not actually going straight into the other team's golem room, but staying
in one of the hallways if you can. It is much easier to shoot from there without being shot yourself.
[5.3.h] Snake Temple
On this map you pretty much have two choices. You can: A) Choose stay on the same level and run to the big room with all platforms. Here you will most likely fight a few people
and try to keep them from getting to the gold golem room. B) Choose to go up the ramp, and through your own golem room to the top level. Here you will most likely fight other people
who are trying to get to the golem room by way of the top level.
In either case I would not recommend actually going into the golem room, because it is a small space and you can get hit very
easily. I would just try to fight outside the golem room, maybe trying to hit people as they are jumping on the platforms so
they can't reach the next platform and fall down. That is so funny. If your enemy does get the gold sword, my favorite thing
to do is stay on the top level on the opposite side of the gold golem room and shoot arrows at the door. Eventually the man
with the golden gun, er... I mean sword, will pop out and take an arrow to the head. Free damage! Woot!
[5.3.i] Lava War 1
Lava War 1 is not a great map for archers. The space is relatively small, with lava rivers, and hardly any places to hide.
The biggest problem I have on this map is mages and other archers. If you are busy fighting in close combat, these guys can
just shoot you from a distance, and there is not much you can do about it. The best thing you can do is probably stick by
your teammates and keep moving around.
[5.3.j] Lava War 2
This map is considerably better than Lava War 1. Although, it can be tricky at times, too.
This map is good because of the space, albeit most of it is walkways with lots of lava on either side. You can hide behind a
few platforms, but there aren't a lot. This map is bad because you can get easily bum rushed and knocked down into the lava.
I would recommend staying behind your teammates and out of the open areas.
[5.3.k] Icefield
This is a large map, which will be a disadvantage to most archers. If you are like me you will have spent most of your points
on range damage and not move speed, which means you will have problems attacking/defending the golems. What I think is best
usually is attacking the other players. This will prevent them from getting the gold golem, and maybe your team will get it
faster. Also, if the enemy team gets the gold sword, I usually don't chase after unless I need to. I will try to stay in the
main room fighting a few other players that didn't follow their teammate.
[5.3.l] Underground Altar
Underground Altar is a decent level for archers. When I start off I always go up the stairs and through the double doors, but
I raraly go straight for the golem room. Instead I will try to shoot people on the bridge, skirmish with other archers, and
try to knock people down to the basement. If everyone has gone into the golem room I will go into the hallway leading to the
gold golem room and try to stop any enemy coming through.
If an an enemy does manage to get the sword and get past you, your only choice is to pretty much run after them. I would try
my hardest, though, to kill them before they get to your team's golem room. It is hard for an archer to fire in there,
because it is a small area and there are pillars that will block your aim.
Last thing: Any other questions?
